(more)California Browncoats is a 501(c)3 non profit dedicated to promoting the fandom of Firefly & Serenity and other projects of their cast & crew through charitable works. We can be found at conventions, screenings, shindigs, and other events throughout California. Since 2007, California Browncoats has donated over $240,000 to various charities. A major part of the California Browncoats' mission is to raise funds for other non-profit charities. We try to enlist the help of a celebrity spokesperson/sponsor from the cast or crew of Firefly or Serenity. The spokesperson/sponsor will choose the charity that receives the funds we raise at that event. For the SDCC@Home event, we are raising funds for Kids Need To Read, via donations made through our webpage using the DONATE button,

MORE ABOUT KIDS NEED TO READ
"Founded with a passion to improve the lives of disadvantaged children by providing inspiring book collections and engaging literacy programs to underfunded schools, libraries, and organizations across the nation, Kids Need to Read aspires to empower and embolden every last child through a culture of reading. For many of the children it serves, Kids Need to Read represents a crucial link to a strong literacy education, and its programs help build and nurture support systems for the development of literate minds. By immersing children in an integrated world of literary experiences that teaches them, firsthand, the impact of reading on every aspect of life, imagination is ignited and confidence is built for a prosperous future, regardless of race, economic status, or personal capabilities." CABC AND KNTR
KNTR was formed by PJ Haarsma and Nathan Fillion in 2007. California Browncoats gave KNTR one of their first big donations in October, 2007, which became the KNTR Endowment Fund. All donations made through our DONATE button for the month of July will be sent to KNTR.
